TECHNICAL INFORMATION Design and Applications in Separation of Oil and Water for Stormwater and Industrial Water Treatment Mohr Separations Research, Inc. provides consulting, design, specifications, project management, equipment and other services for industry and government. We specialize in offering a selection of technologies for innovative solutions in separating liquids that do not readily mix such as oil and water. Experience We offer nearly twenty years experience in separating hydrocarbons and water, both for industrial and stormwater uses and more than thirty years experience in Oil Refineries, Chemical Processing Facilities, Engineering of major and small projects, Stormwater and Industrial Liquid Processing and Equipment Design and Manufacturing. We are experts in the use of Coalescing Plate Separators to remove unwanted oils from water streams. Member of the Water Environment Federation Industrial Waste Committee, the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) committee on Oil-Water Separator Testing, and the Underwriters Laboratories of Canada committee on Oil-Water Separator Testing. Applications: Typical applications include processing industrial streams or stormwater for removal of either vegetable or hydrocarbon oils. Some applications are:
Why Treat Stormwater? The US Clean Water Act requires that waters (including some stormwater) entering lakes, rivers, and streams may not show a sheen due to oil and various state and local regulatory agencies also have regulations governing contaminants in Stormwater. Canadian regulations are as stringent or more stringent in some cases. Stormwater from roads, bridges, parking lots and industrial facilities has been shown to contain a number of contaminants, notably hydrocarbon oils leaked from vehicles and heavy metal particles containing copper and lead. We are expert in the use of coalescing plate separators to remove these contaminants to levels that meet the legal requirements of most areas. Coalescing plate separators have the advantages of operating by gravity, do not require moving parts or electricity to operate and are permanently installed. Coalescing plate separators do not need replacement like cartridge filters or absorbents. Many environmental regulatory agencies require proof of performance and it is possible to mathematically prove that the coalescing plate separators will remove oils to acceptable levels, which is not possible with other types of separators. Why Treat Industrial Streams? Many industrial streams such as oil refinery wastewater contain small amounts of oil in droplet form. The droplets are usually small, but the aggregate amount of oil may exceed the regulatory allowable maximum. It is often possible to recover sufficient oil to pay for the engineering and equipment to perform the recovery, thus protecting the environment and profits at the same time. Tramp oil in machine tool coolant can cause coolant degradation, short coolant life, poor quality product, and even damage to tooling. Use of a separator custom designed by Mohr Separations Research can result in longer coolant life, lower used coolant disposal costs, decreased maintenance, and reduced equipment downtime. Separating and removing tramp oil from coolant can also reduce bacterial growth in the coolant, thus reducing bacterial odor. Some people are allergic to the type of bacteria that grows in contaminated coolant, so removing the oil (which is the food for the bacteria) can minimize the chance of employee allergic reactions. Mohr Separations Research, Inc. will recommend the optimum system to meet your needs. Why Choose Mohr Separations Research, Inc? Many different systems are available for treating these streams for oil removal, but the coalescing plate separators and other systems designed by Mohr Separations Research, Inc. offer many advantages: · Maximum reliability · Minimum operating costs · Simple maintenance requirements · The oil that is recovered is usually suitable for recycling or reuse. · Custom designed to meet environmental needs. Mohr Separations Research, Inc. Specialty Separations of Non-Mixing Liquids Complete Service: Mohr Separations Research offers complete consulting, design and equipment service in removing oil from water. We utilize a proprietary process simulation program to custom design each separator so that you can be sure that the effluent water will meet your regulatory requirements. Please call and see how our experience can work for you in meeting your environmental needs. Separators and Systems: We offer either individual separators or complete systems, large and small for water and wastewater treatment. An example of our designs is shown below. Typical MSR Groundwater Treatment System This system is designed for 5 l/min flow and is provided with an automatic control system for unattended operation. Unit is carbon steel, epoxy coated and is provided with non-metallic accessories for corrosion protections. The control system is explosion proof and a pneumatic pump is utilized for ease of maintenance. 128 E. 119th Street Jenks, Oklahoma 74037 USA Telephone: 918-299-9290 Telefax: 918-296-9290 Email: kirby@mohrseparations.com Website:
